The Friends of South Windsor Swimming is a community group established to support swimming at South Windsor High School.  Our objective is to raise funds to cover the cost of varsity boys and girls swim teams at South Windsor High School for three years beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.

For nearly 20 years, South Windsor High School swimmers have been restricted to swimming at other high schools as a "team of one" and SWHS was one of only two towns in its 21 town high school “District Reference Group” that did not provide varsity swimming & diving as part of its athletic program.   On February 9, 2010, the Board of Education voted to establish Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving teams at SWHS with the stipulation that it be privately funded for the first 3 years.

We are reaching out to you, the South Windsor community, for help.  Please donate to the Friends of South Windsor Swimming. With your support we can “fill the pool.”

Girls Swimming

In the fall, the new Girls Swim Team began with 16 swimmers (there were no divers this first season).  Coach Vendetta brought together a groups of girls with a wide range of swimming skills and created a close-knit team where everyone improved as the season progressed.  The girls finished a successful season with a record of 5-3 and finished 3rd in the CCC North conference, 10th in Class L Finals, and sent 2 relays to the State Open Championship (top 24 in the State).

As proud as we are with their accomplishments in the pool, it is equally as important to note that 5 of the 16 swimmers were awarded SWHS All-Academic Team honors in the fall for varsity athletes who earned a grade point average of 3.7 (A-) or higher.  Further, Lauren Branscombe took top honors as the female with the highest GPA of all fall sports at the high school and was recognized as part of the Journal Inquirer’s All Academic Team for fall sports at 19 local schools.

Boys Swimming and Diving

The winter season kicked off with 21 members joining--including one female diver. Again, swimmers of all abilities joined the team and improved a great deal over the course of the season.  The Boys Swim & Dive team finished with a regular season record of 8-1, 2nd in CCC North, and 8th at Class L Finals.  Four boys continued to State Open competition and earned South Windsor a 27th place finish overall.

In addition, the boys also did well academically, with 5 swimmers being awarded Conference All-Academic Team honors in the winter with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.  Finally, Tim Savidge took the same top honors as Lauren did in the fall, being recognized as the male with the highest GPA of all winter sports at the high school.

To cap off a great season, Nick Purrington finished the season as the State Champion in the 100 Backstroke!
