The Friends of South Windsor Swimming is a community group established to support swimming at South Windsor High School.  The immediate objective of the Friends of South Windsor Swimming is to raise $28,128 to cover the cost of varsity boys and girls swim teams at South Windsor High School for the 2010-2011 school year. These teams will enable approximately 60 students in grades 9 through 12 to benefit from participating in interscholastic swimming and diving.

For nearly 20 years, South Windsor High School swimmers have been swimming at other high schools as a "team of one."  Our swimmers have practiced and competed with Windsor High School, Bulkeley High School (Hartford), and most recently, Bristol Central High School (thirty miles away!).  Despite the obstacles, SWHS has had many accomplished student-athletes who have been honored both academically and athletically in high school and college. Unfortunately, these “teams of one” (teams of 3 or less) do not begin to meet the demand that exists for swimming and diving at the high school.  With the addition of two new indoor pools nearby (in Tolland and Ellington), the historic barrier to creating full-fledged independent varsity swim teams at SWHS no longer exists.

SWHS was one of only two towns in its 21 town high school “District Reference Group” that did not provide full-fledged varsity swimming and diving as part of its athletic program and the CIAC, in its May 2008 review of the SWHS athletic program, recommended that the sport of swimming be expanded at SWHS.

The time to act is now!  On February 9, 2010, the Board of Education voted to establish Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving teams at SWHS with the stipulation that it be privately funded for the first 3 years.   Given this requirement, we are reaching out to you, the South Windsor community, for help.  Please donate to the Friends of South Windsor Swimming.  With your support we can “fill the pool” and make this dream a reality

Thank you for your support!
